That headline is almost certainly exaggerating. There is no watering ingredient that will make an orchid “10 times more beautiful.” Orchids become healthier and bloom better because of proper growing conditions, not miracle mixtures.
For a very leafy Orchid, the issue is often that it’s producing leaves instead of flowers. Common reasons include:
☀️ Insufficient light
Many orchids (especially Phalaenopsis orchid) will grow plenty of leaves in low light but won’t flower much.
- Provide bright, indirect light.
- Avoid harsh midday sun.
🧴 Proper fertilizer
A balanced orchid fertilizer is more reliable than home remedies like banana water, rice water, or milk.
- Feed lightly according to the product directions.
- Overfertilizing can damage roots.
💧 Correct watering
- Water thoroughly, then allow the growing medium to partially dry.
- Avoid keeping roots constantly wet.
- Most orchids are harmed more by overwatering than underwatering.
🌡️ Temperature differences
Many orchids bloom better when nights are slightly cooler than days.
🪴 Healthy roots
If roots are rotting or crowded, the plant may focus on survival rather than flowering.
What about the “special water” in viral posts?
These articles often recommend:
- banana peel water
- rice water
- garlic water
- aspirin water
- milk mixtures
While some may contain nutrients, there is little scientific evidence that they dramatically improve orchid growth or flowering. In some cases, they can even encourage mold, bacteria, or unpleasant odors in the potting medium.
