Yes—people absolutely do.
Brussels sprouts just have a reputation problem more than anything else.
The “nobody eats them” idea mostly comes from older cooking styles where they were boiled into something bitter and sulfur-heavy. That version turned a lot of people off for life.
But in real life (and especially in restaurants), they’re pretty common when cooked properly:
- Roasted until crispy with olive oil and salt
- Pan-seared with garlic or butter
- Tossed with bacon, balsamic, or chili flakes
- Even shaved raw into salads or slaws
When they’re done right, they taste more like a slightly nutty, caramelized cabbage than anything unpleasant.
So yes—people eat them regularly. It’s just that the “bad version” became a meme, while the good version quietly stayed on menus and dinner tables.
