That kind of promise is garden clickbait. No single trick will make geraniums bloom continuously for over a year. But you can keep Geranium flowering for a very long time with the right care.
Here’s what actually works:
🌸 1. Deadhead spent flowers (most important)
- Remove faded blooms regularly
- This stops the plant from putting energy into seed production
- Encourages new flower buds
☀️ 2. Give plenty of sunlight
- Geraniums need 4–6+ hours of direct sun daily
- Less light = fewer flowers, more leaves
💧 3. Water correctly (not too much)
- Water when the top soil is dry
- Overwatering leads to weak growth and fewer blooms
- Good drainage is essential
🌿 4. Use balanced fertilizer (light feeding)
- Too much nitrogen = lots of leaves, fewer flowers
- Use a bloom-friendly fertilizer (higher potassium/phosphorus) every 2–4 weeks in growing season
✂️ 5. Prune lightly
- Trim leggy stems
- Helps the plant stay compact and encourages branching (more flowers)
🪴 6. Repot if root-bound
- Tight roots = fewer blooms
- Refresh soil every season or two
🧠 Reality check
Even with perfect care:
- Geraniums may slow down in extreme heat or cold
- They naturally have cycles of blooming and resting
- “Non-stop blooming for a year” is not realistic
