Laundry as white and pure as milk: you only need this ingredient

If you want laundry as white and fresh as possible, one common household ingredient people use is baking soda (sodium bicarbonate).

🧺 How baking soda can help laundry

  • Brightens whites: Helps loosen dirt and odors trapped in fabric.
  • Neutralizes smells: Reduces musty or sweaty odors.
  • Softens water: Helps detergent work more effectively in hard water.
  • Gentler alternative: It is milder than many strong whitening chemicals.

How to use it

For a normal wash:

  1. Add your usual laundry detergent.
  2. Add about ½ cup of baking soda directly into the washing machine drum with the clothes.
  3. Wash as usual.

For very dull white clothes

  • Soak clothes in warm water with ½–1 cup baking soda for a few hours before washing.
  • Then wash normally.

Other natural helpers

  • White vinegar: Helps remove odors and detergent residue (add to the rinse compartment, not together with baking soda).
  • Sun drying: Sunlight can naturally help brighten white fabrics.

Note: Baking soda is not a replacement for bleach when disinfecting heavily contaminated laundry, and always check fabric care labels—especially for delicate materials.
