Bleach stains are tricky because bleach usually removes the fabric’s dye rather than leaving a removable stain. That means you often can’t “wash it out,” but you may be able to repair or hide the discoloration.
1. Stop the bleach damage immediately
- Rinse the area with cold water as soon as possible.
- Wash the garment separately to remove any remaining bleach.
- Avoid adding more bleach or strong cleaners.
2. Recolor the faded spot
For small bleach marks:
- Use a fabric marker that matches the clothing color.
- Apply fabric dye to the affected area for a more even result.
- Test the color on an inside seam first.
3. Turn the mark into a design
If the bleach spots are noticeable:
- Create a tie-dye effect by intentionally adding more diluted bleach patterns (only on suitable fabrics).
- Add patches, embroidery, or fabric decorations.
- Re-dye the whole garment a darker color to blend the faded areas.
