5 Symptoms of a Mini Stroke in Seniors That Shouldn’t Be Ignored

5 Symptoms of a Mini Stroke (TIA) in Seniors That Shouldn’t Be IgnoredA mini stroke, also called a transient ischemic attack (TIA), happens when blood flow to part of the brain is briefly blocked. Symptoms may disappear within minutes or hours, but a TIA can be a warning sign of a possible future stroke and needs urgent medical attention.

1. Sudden weakness or numbness

Especially on one side of the body:

  • Face drooping
  • Arm or leg weakness
  • Tingling or loss of sensation

2. Trouble speaking or understanding speech

Signs may include:

  • Slurred speech
  • Difficulty finding words
  • Confusion when others are speaking

3. Sudden vision changes

Possible symptoms:

  • Loss of vision in one eye
  • Blurred or double vision
  • Trouble seeing clearly

4. Sudden dizziness or loss of balance

Watch for:

  • Trouble walking
  • Poor coordination
  • Feeling unusually unsteady

5. Sudden severe headache or unusual symptoms

A sudden, intense headache—especially with other neurological symptoms—can be a warning sign.

Remember FAST 🚨

F — Face: Is one side of the face drooping?
A — Arms: Can both arms be raised normally?
S — Speech: Is speech strange or unclear?
T — Time: Call emergency services immediately if these signs appear.

Even if symptoms go away, a person should still be evaluated by a healthcare professional because treatment can reduce the risk of a larger stroke.
