If You Have These 9 Symptoms in Your Feet, Don’t Ignore Them
Your feet can reveal changes in your nerves, circulation, skin, joints, and overall health. Many foot symptoms are caused by everyday issues such as uncomfortable shoes, overuse, or minor injuries. However, symptoms that are persistent, unexplained, or getting worse deserve attention.
Here are nine symptoms worth knowing about.
1. Persistent numbness or tingling
A repeated “pins and needles” sensation, reduced feeling, or numbness in your toes or feet can have several causes, including nerve compression or peripheral neuropathy.
If numbness persists, gradually worsens, or affects both feet, it is worth discussing with a healthcare professional. Burning, numbness, or tingling involving much of the sole of the foot is also a reason to arrange an evaluation.
2. Burning or unusually hot feet
A burning sensation in the feet can occur with nerve problems and several other conditions. If the burning continues for weeks, becomes increasingly painful, spreads upward into the legs, or is accompanied by loss of sensation, medical evaluation is appropriate.
Sudden burning after a possible exposure to a toxin requires urgent medical attention.
3. Persistent swelling
Swollen feet or ankles can result from prolonged standing, injury, certain medications, or fluid accumulation. But unexplained or persistent swelling can have other causes and shouldn’t simply be dismissed.
Swelling that is sudden, painful, particularly affects only one leg, or occurs with redness and warmth should be assessed promptly.
4. Changes in skin color or temperature
A foot that becomes unusually pale, blue, purple, or markedly different in temperature from the other foot can sometimes indicate a circulation problem.
Color changes can also occur with injuries, inflammation, or other conditions, so the symptom alone cannot identify the cause
