🧽 The Easiest Way to Clean a Greasy Oven Hood Filter
A greasy range-hood filter can usually be cleaned with hot water, dish soap, and baking soda—no harsh chemicals needed.
What you’ll need
Hot water
Dishwashing liquid
2–3 tablespoons baking soda
A large sink or basin
Non-scratch brush or sponge
Steps
Turn off the hood and remove the filter according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
Fill a sink or basin with very hot water and add a generous squirt of dish soap.
Add 2–3 tablespoons of baking soda and stir.
Submerge the filter and let it soak for 15–30 minutes.
Scrub away loosened grease with a non-scratch brush.
Rinse thoroughly with clean water.
Let the filter dry completely before reinstalling it.

Check the manufacturer’s instructions first. Many metal mesh filters are dishwasher-safe, but some filters should not be soaked or washed in a dishwasher. Never use flammable solvents to remove grease.
For heavily coated filters, repeat the soak rather than aggressively scrubbing or using a caustic cleaner.
