Cinnamon Walnut Rolls
Soft, fluffy cinnamon rolls filled with a sweet cinnamon-walnut mixture and topped with a simple glaze—perfect for breakfast or a cozy treat.
Ingredients
For the dough
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 2¼ teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
- ¾ cup warm milk
- ¼ cup sugar
- ¼ cup melted butter
- 1 large egg
- ½ teaspoon salt
For the filling
- ½ cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
- ¾ cup chopped walnuts
- 3 tablespoons softened butter
For the glaze (optional)
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2–3 tablespoons milk
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Prepare the dough
- Mix warm milk, yeast, and a little sugar. Let sit for about 5–10 minutes until foamy.
- Add flour, remaining sugar, melted butter, egg, and salt.
- Knead until smooth and elastic, about 8–10 minutes.
- Cover and let rise for 1–1½ hours, until doubled in size.
- Make the filling
- Combine brown sugar, cinnamon, and chopped walnuts.
- Shape the rolls
- Roll the dough into a rectangle.
- Spread softened butter over the surface.
- Sprinkle evenly with the cinnamon-walnut mixture.
- Roll tightly from the long side and cut into equal slices.
- Second rise
- Place rolls in a greased baking dish.
- Cover and let rise for 30–45 minutes.
- Bake
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 22–28 minutes, until golden brown.
- Add glaze
- Mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla.
- Drizzle over warm rolls before serving.
Tips for extra-soft rolls
- Use warm (not hot) milk so the yeast activates properly.
- Don’t add too much flour—the dough should stay soft and slightly tacky.
- Toast the walnuts briefly before adding them for a deeper flavor.
- Serve warm for the best texture.
