Cinnamon Walnut Rolls

Soft, fluffy cinnamon rolls filled with a sweet cinnamon-walnut mixture and topped with a simple glaze—perfect for breakfast or a cozy treat.

Ingredients

For the dough

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2¼ teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • ¾ cup warm milk
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • ¼ cup melted butter
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ teaspoon salt

For the filling

  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • ¾ cup chopped walnuts
  • 3 tablespoons softened butter

For the glaze (optional)

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2–3 tablespoons milk
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Prepare the dough
    • Mix warm milk, yeast, and a little sugar. Let sit for about 5–10 minutes until foamy.
    • Add flour, remaining sugar, melted butter, egg, and salt.
    • Knead until smooth and elastic, about 8–10 minutes.
    • Cover and let rise for 1–1½ hours, until doubled in size.
  2. Make the filling
    • Combine brown sugar, cinnamon, and chopped walnuts.
  3. Shape the rolls
    • Roll the dough into a rectangle.
    • Spread softened butter over the surface.
    • Sprinkle evenly with the cinnamon-walnut mixture.
    • Roll tightly from the long side and cut into equal slices.
  4. Second rise
    • Place rolls in a greased baking dish.
    • Cover and let rise for 30–45 minutes.
  5. Bake
    • Bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 22–28 minutes, until golden brown.
  6. Add glaze
    • Mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla.
    • Drizzle over warm rolls before serving.

Tips for extra-soft rolls

  • Use warm (not hot) milk so the yeast activates properly.
  • Don’t add too much flour—the dough should stay soft and slightly tacky.
  • Toast the walnuts briefly before adding them for a deeper flavor.
  • Serve warm for the best texture.
