- Warm water
- Mild dish soap
- Microfiber cloth
- Soft toothbrush or small cleaning brush
- White vinegar (for mineral deposits)
- Baking soda (optional)
- Disinfectant (optional)
Steps
- Turn off the water if needed
- For normal cleaning, you usually don’t need to shut off the water.
- If you are cleaning inside the flush mechanism, turn off the supply valve first.
- Wipe away surface dirt
- Mix warm water with a few drops of dish soap.
- Wipe the flush handle or button with a microfiber cloth.
- Pay attention to edges, seams, and areas around the mounting plate.
- Clean hard-to-reach areas
- Use a soft toothbrush around the base of the handle, button gaps, and screw areas.
- Avoid rough scrubbers that can scratch chrome, plastic, or coated surfaces.
- Remove hard-water stains
- Dampen a cloth with white vinegar and place it on mineral buildup for 5–10 minutes.
- Gently wipe and rinse with clean water.
- Do not leave vinegar on natural stone surfaces nearby.
- Disinfect
- Apply a bathroom-safe disinfectant according to the product instructions.
- Allow the recommended contact time, then wipe dry.
- Make it shine
- Dry the flush area completely with a clean microfiber cloth.
- A dry finish helps prevent water spots and keeps chrome parts shiny.
For a toilet flush button or plate
- If it can be removed easily, check the manufacturer’s instructions before taking it off.
- Clean behind the plate where dust and grime can collect.
- Avoid pouring bleach or harsh cleaners into the button openings, as they can damage internal parts.
