Recipe

My grandmother used to make this growing up during the summer months and it was always fork tender and filling. Just 3 simple ingredients from the pantry.

Grandma’s 3-Ingredient Summer Chicken & Gravy 🍗

Ingredients

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (or thighs)
  • 1 can cream of chicken soup
  • 1 packet onion soup mix

(Optional: a little water or chicken broth to thin the sauce)

Instructions

  1. Place the chicken in a slow cooker or baking dish.
  2. Spread the cream of chicken soup over the top.
  3. Sprinkle the onion soup mix evenly over everything.
  4. Cook until the chicken is fork tender:
    • Slow cooker: Low for 6–8 hours or high for 3–4 hours
    • Oven: Cover and bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 45–60 minutes, until cooked through
  5. Spoon the rich gravy over the chicken and serve.

Good old-fashioned sides:

  • Mashed potatoes (perfect for soaking up the gravy)
  • Green beans
  • Corn on the cob
  • Warm biscuits

If the recipe you remember was from your grandmother’s summer months and used a different main ingredient (like potatoes, pork, green beans, or beef), tell me what it was and I can help track down the closest version.
