THIS burns weeds in 1 day! They NEVER grow again

Claims like “THIS burns weeds in 1 day! They NEVER grow again!” are usually exaggerated. No homemade remedy can guarantee that weeds will never return, because many weeds regrow from deep roots or produce seeds that remain viable in the soil for years.

Here are some methods that can be effective:

1. Hand-pulling

  • Best for small weeds.
  • Remove as much of the root as possible to reduce regrowth.

2. Boiling water

  • Can kill the leaves and stems of weeds growing in cracks in sidewalks or driveways.
  • Avoid using it near desirable plants, as it can damage them too.

3. Mulch

  • A 2–4 inch (5–10 cm) layer of mulch helps block sunlight and suppress new weed growth.

4. Vinegar-based weed killers

  • Household vinegar may burn the tops of young weeds but often does not kill the roots, especially of established perennial weeds.
  • Stronger horticultural vinegar is more effective but can cause skin and eye burns and should be handled with care.

5. Commercial herbicides

  • When used according to the label, they can be effective for difficult or invasive weeds. Different products work best for different weed types.

The reality

  • Annual weeds may die after one treatment if removed before they produce seeds.
  • Perennial weeds (such as dandelions, bindweed, or many grasses) often require repeated treatment because they can regrow from their root systems.
  • No method can guarantee weeds will “never grow again”, since new seeds can blow in or already be present in the soil.

The best long-term strategy combines removing existing weeds, preventing seed production, and using mulch or ground cover to reduce future growth.
