The reality
There is no homemade weed killer that reliably:

- Prevents them from ever growing back.
Many weeds regrow from deep roots, rhizomes, bulbs, or seeds already in the soil.
Common homemade weed killers
Many viral recipes use:
- Vinegar
- Salt
- Dish soap
Here’s what they actually do:
- Vinegar: Can burn the leaves of young weeds on sunny days, but it often doesn’t kill the roots of established or perennial weeds.
- Salt: Can kill plants, but it also remains in the soil, making it difficult for desirable plants to grow. It can damage soil for months or longer.
- Dish soap: Helps the solution stick to leaves but is not a weed killer by itself.
More effective long-term approaches
Depending on the situation, better options include:
- Pulling weeds before they produce seeds.
- Applying mulch to block sunlight and reduce new weed growth.

Can weeds “never grow again”?
