Claims like “burns weeds in 1 day” and “they never grow again” are usually exaggerated.
Common homemade weed killers include:
- Vinegar (acetic acid), sometimes mixed with dish soap.
- Boiling water poured directly on weeds.
- Commercial herbicides containing ingredients such as Glyphosate or other weed-control chemicals.
A few things to know:
- Vinegar and boiling water often kill the top growth quickly, but many weeds regrow from their roots.
- No treatment guarantees weeds will never return. New weeds can grow from seeds blown in by wind, carried by animals, or already present in the soil.
- Stronger herbicides may kill the entire plant, including roots, but effectiveness depends on the weed species and proper application.
If you’re trying to get rid of a specific weed, tell me what it is (or share a photo), and I can suggest the most effective control method.
