Two Fruits That Regenerate Collagen in the Knees

The idea that certain fruits can “regenerate collagen in the knees” is a popular claim, but no fruit has been proven to directly rebuild lost knee cartilage or regenerate knee collagen on its own. However, some fruits contain nutrients that support the body’s natural collagen production and help protect connective tissues.

Two good choices are:

1. Oranges (and other vitamin C–rich fruits)

Vitamin C is essential for making collagen. Citrus fruits such as oranges, lemons, and grapefruits provide vitamin C, which helps your body produce and maintain collagen in skin, tendons, ligaments, and cartilage.

2. Berries (especially strawberries and blackberries)

Berries are rich in vitamin C and antioxidants called polyphenols. These compounds may help reduce oxidative stress and inflammation that can contribute to joint discomfort.

Other helpful fruits include:

  • Kiwi — very high in vitamin C
  • Guava — one of the richest fruit sources of vitamin C
  • Pineapple — contains bromelain, an enzyme studied for possible effects on inflammation
  • Cherries — contain antioxidants that may support joint health

For knee health, collagen support also depends on getting enough protein, along with nutrients such as vitamin C, zinc, and copper. Regular strength exercise, maintaining a healthy weight, and protecting joints from excessive strain are often more impactful for long-term knee function than any single food.
