Why Daily Showers After 65 May Do More Harm Than Good

The claim that daily showers after age 65 “do more harm than good” is an exaggeration, but there is some truth behind it: older skin is often more fragile and prone to dryness, so shower habits may need to change with age.

As people get older:

  • Use a mild, fragrance-free cleanser (especially on areas that need cleaning).
  • Avoid vigorous scrubbing.

People with conditions such as eczema, very dry skin, or certain skin disorders may benefit from less frequent full-body washing, while others may prefer daily showers for comfort and hygiene. The best routine is the one that keeps the skin healthy and suits the person’s needs.
