To clean your toilet flush and make it look like new, focus on removing mineral buildup, grime, and bacteria from both the flush handle/button and the inside of the tank (if accessible).
What you’ll need
- White vinegar
- Baking soda (optional)
- Old toothbrush or small scrub brush
- Microfiber cloth
- Rubber gloves
- Mild bathroom cleaner
Steps
- Clean the flush handle or button
- Wipe the area with warm soapy water.
- Spray with diluted white vinegar (or a bathroom cleaner).
- Let it sit for a few minutes, then scrub around edges and seams with a toothbrush.
- Wipe dry to restore shine.
- Remove mineral deposits
- For hard-water stains around the flush opening or metal parts, soak a cloth in white vinegar and place it on the buildup for 15–30 minutes.
- Scrub gently and rinse.
- Clean inside the toilet tank (if needed)
- Turn off the water supply.
- Flush to lower the water level.
- Use vinegar to loosen scale and deposits around the tank components.
- Gently scrub with a brush.
- Turn the water back on and flush a few times.
- Freshen the area
- Sprinkle a small amount of baking soda on stubborn spots, scrub gently, and rinse.
- Dry all surfaces with a clean cloth to prevent water spots.
Maintenance tip
Wipe the flush handle or button once a week and avoid using harsh bleach products frequently inside the tank, as they can damage rubber seals and internal parts over time.
