Oven-Baked 3-Ingredient Potato Ring 🥔This simple potato dish makes a crispy outside and soft, fluffy inside with just a few basic ingredients. It’s a great side dish for dinner or a fun alternative to regular mashed potatoes.
Ingredients
- 🥔 4 large potatoes (about 2 lb / 900 g), peeled
- 🧈 3 tbsp butter or olive oil
- 🧂 Salt (and pepper, optional)
(Optional additions: garlic powder, paprika, grated cheese, or herbs for extra flavor.)
Instructions
- Prepare the potatoes
- Peel and cut potatoes into chunks.
- Boil in salted water for about 15–20 minutes until very soft.
- Drain well.
- Make the potato mixture
- Mash the potatoes until smooth.
- Mix in butter (or olive oil) and season with salt.
- For a smoother texture, use a potato ricer or mash thoroughly.
- Shape the ring
- Place the mashed potato mixture into a piping bag (or a plastic bag with the corner cut off).
- Pipe a thick ring shape onto a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
- Bake
- Brush lightly with melted butter or oil.
- Bake at 400°F (200°C) for about 25–35 minutes, until golden and slightly crisp.
- Serve
- Serve warm with meat, fish, vegetables, or a dipping sauce.
Tips for a better potato ring
- Use starchy potatoes (like Russets) for a lighter texture.
- Make sure the potatoes are well-drained before mashing—too much moisture makes the ring collapse.
- Add an egg yolk or a little grated cheese if you want a firmer, more restaurant-style shape.
It’s essentially a baked version of a potato duchess-style side dish, but simplified to a few everyday ingredients.
