Easy Soft & Fluffy Butter Naan Recipe
This homemade butter naan is soft, slightly chewy, and perfect with curries, grilled meats, or dips.
Ingredients (makes about 8 naan)
For the dough
- 3 cups (375 g) all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ¾ cup (180 g) plain yogurt
- 2 tablespoons melted butter or oil
- ¾–1 cup warm water (as needed)
For finishing
- 3–4 tablespoons melted butter
- Chopped cilantro (optional)
- Minced garlic (optional)
Instructions
- Make the dough
- Mix flour, salt, sugar, baking powder, and baking soda in a bowl.
- Add yogurt and melted butter.
- Slowly add warm water and knead until you get a soft, slightly sticky dough.
- Knead and rest
- Knead for about 5–8 minutes until smooth.
- Cover and let it rest for 1–2 hours (this helps make the naan softer).
- Shape the naan
- Divide dough into 8 portions.
- Roll each piece into a thin oval or teardrop shape.
- Sprinkle with garlic or cilantro if desired.
- Cook
- Heat a heavy skillet or cast-iron pan over medium-high heat.
- Place naan on the hot pan.
- Cook until bubbles form and the bottom has golden spots.
- Flip and cook the other side.
- Add butter
- Brush hot naan generously with melted butter.
- Serve warm.
