How to wash yellowed pillows: 3 tips to keep them white and new

If your pillows have turned yellow from sweat, body oils, or moisture, you can often brighten them again. Before washing, check the care label, because memory-foam and latex pillows usually shouldn’t be machine-washed.

🛏️ 3 tips for whitening pillows
Pre-treat the yellow areas
Mix a little liquid laundry detergent with warm water.
Apply it to the stained areas and gently work it in.
Let it sit for about 15–30 minutes.
Wash with oxygen bleach
For washable white pillows, use your normal detergent plus an oxygen-based bleach (such as sodium percarbonate), following the product directions.
Use the warmest water permitted by the care label.
Run an extra rinse to remove detergent residue.
Dry completely
Tumble-dry according to the label, using a suitable temperature.
Add dryer balls or clean tennis balls to help restore the filling.
Make absolutely sure the pillow is completely dry inside before using it, since trapped moisture can encourage mold and odors.
⚠️ Avoid this common mistake

Never mix chlorine bleach with vinegar, ammonia, or other household cleaners. Also, chlorine bleach can actually weaken some pillow fabrics and fibers, so oxygen bleach is usually the gentler choice for washable white bedding.

For prevention, use a washable pillow protector underneath the pillowcase and wash it regularly.
