If you’re referring to the viral gardening headline “Never uproot this plant if it appears in your garden,” don’t automatically keep or remove an unidentified plant. 🌱
The advice is usually based on the idea that a “weed” may actually be useful—for example, dandelion or clover can provide food for pollinators and contribute to garden ecology. But other volunteer plants can be invasive, poisonous, or harmful to pets.
Before pulling it out
📸 Identify the plant first—look at the leaves, flowers, stem and growth habit.
🐝 If it’s harmless and not taking over, you may choose to leave it for pollinators.
🌿 If it’s invasive or spreading aggressively, removing it may be the better choice.
☠️ Don’t eat an unidentified plant just because an online post calls it medicinal.
Send me a photo of the plant (or the name from the post), and I can identify it and tell you whether it’s actually worth keeping in your garden.
