“Never Uproot This Plant If It Appears in Your Garden” 🌱
This viral headline usually refers to a specific plant, but without the plant’s name or a photo, it’s impossible to know which one. There are many plants that social-media posts describe as “weeds you should never remove,” and some claims are exaggerated.
Some plants commonly praised for their garden value include:
Dandelion — provides nectar and pollen for some insects and has edible leaves, although it can also spread aggressively.
Clover — can support pollinators and add nitrogen to soil.
Nettle — supports numerous butterfly and moth species, but can sting and should be handled carefully.
Plantain (Plantago) — a common lawn plant that provides food for some insects and birds.
But don’t keep an unknown plant simply because a viral post says it’s beneficial. Some wild plants can be poisonous, invasive, or harmful to pets and children.
If you send me a photo of the plant or the name from the post, I can identify it and tell you whether you should keep it, remove it, or take precautions.
