The Best Vitamin for Your Legs: What Dead Feet and Heavy Calves Are Missing

“The best vitamin for your legs” — what does the evidence say?

There isn’t one vitamin that universally fixes “dead feet” or heavy calves. Those symptoms can have many causes, including circulation problems, nerve disorders, medication effects, anemia, and nutritional deficiencies.

One deficiency that is particularly important to rule out is vitamin B12 deficiency. Low B12 can cause:

Numbness or tingling in the feet and legs
Weakness
Balance or walking problems
Fatigue
Nerve damage, which can become permanent if severe and untreated

However, taking B12 when you’re not deficient isn’t a proven treatment for heavy or numb legs. Other vitamin deficiencies—and non-vitamin causes—need different treatments.

Don’t overlook these warning signs

If a foot or leg becomes suddenly numb or weak, particularly on one side, seek emergency medical attention because this can be a stroke. A swollen, painful, warm, or red leg can also require urgent assessment for a blood clot.

For persistent numbness, burning, weakness, or difficulty walking, a clinician can check things such as B12, blood count, glucose/diabetes, kidney function, medications, circulation, and nerve function.

Bottom line: B12 is an important nutrient for healthy nerves, but “heavy legs = vitamin deficiency” is not a safe diagnosis.
