What Is The Normal Blood Pressure For Each Age

What Is the Normal Blood Pressure for Each Age?

A common misconception is that everyone has a different “normal” blood pressure based on age. For adults, the normal category is generally the same at 40, 60, 70, or 80.

According to the current 2025 American Heart Association/American College of Cardiology guideline, normal adult blood pressure is below 120/80 mmHg.

What if you’re over 60?

Don’t assume that 140/90 is normal simply because you’re older. The 2025 guideline generally sets a treatment goal of below 130/80 for adults, although doctors may individualize targets for people who are frail, have limited life expectancy, or have other special circumstances.

🚨 Very high blood pressure

If your reading is over 180/120 mmHg, repeat it after at least one minute. If it remains that high and you have chest pain, shortness of breath, weakness/numbness, vision changes, severe headache, or difficulty speaking, seek emergency medical care immediately.

If you give me your age and your blood-pressure reading (for example, “73 years old — 145/82”), I can explain what that specific reading means.
