A Radiant Smile in 60 Seconds: Does the Rice Method Really Work? ππ
You may have seen a viral βrice methodβ claiming that rice water or rice powder can instantly whiten teeth. Unfortunately, there isn’t good evidence that plain rice or rice water can whiten teeth in 60 seconds.
One laboratory study did investigate a special rice-based gel containing carbamide peroxideβbut that is very different from rubbing cooked rice or rice water on your teeth.

A safer 60-second approach
For a quick cleaner-looking smile:
Rinse your mouth with water after strongly colored foods or drinks.
Gently brush with a fluoride toothpaste if it’s time for your normal brushing.
Avoid aggressively scrubbing teeth with raw rice, rice powder, lemon, vinegar, or other abrasive/acidic DIY mixtures. Such methods can damage enamel or irritate gums.

For actual whitening, peroxide-based whitening products have substantially better evidence. Whitening toothpastes can also remove some surface stains, while professional or appropriate at-home bleaching can change tooth color more noticeably.

Bottom line: Rice isn’t a proven 60-second tooth-whitening treatment. For a healthy, brighter smile, stick with twice-daily fluoride brushing, daily cleaning between teeth, and dentist-recommended whitening when desired.
