Ants can’t stand it! Use it to keep them away for good.

That kind of “one weird trick” claim is usually exaggeration—ants are persistent, and nothing reliably keeps them away forever on its own. But you can absolutely deter them and break their trails so they stop coming inside.

If you’re dealing with ants at home, these actually work fairly well:

White vinegar (best simple option):
Mix equal parts white vinegar and water, then wipe down countertops, floors, and entry points. It removes the scent trails ants follow.

Peppermint oil:
A few drops mixed with water in a spray bottle can repel ants. Spray around windows, doors, and cracks. Ants dislike the strong smell.

Cinnamon or black pepper:
Sprinkling these near entry points can discourage them temporarily by disrupting their movement and scent tracking.

Diatomaceous earth (food-grade):
A fine powder that damages ants’ exoskeletons. Lightly dust it in dry areas where ants enter. It works best when kept dry.

Sugar + borax bait (for colonies):
This is more of a long-term fix—ants carry it back to the nest. But it must be used carefully, especially around kids and pets.

The key point: ants come back when food sources or entry paths remain. So pairing any repellent with clean surfaces, sealed food, and blocked cracks is what actually makes them stop showing up.

If you tell me where you’re seeing them (kitchen, bathroom, garden), I can narrow it down to the most effective option for that situation.
