How to Keep Geraniums Full of Flowers 🌺
There isn’t a secret watering ingredient that guarantees nonstop blooms. Geraniums (Pelargonium) flower best when you get watering, sunlight, drainage, and feeding right.
Water deeply, then let excess water drain away. Water again when the upper layer of soil has dried rather than keeping the soil constantly wet.
Don’t leave the pot sitting in water. Waterlogged roots can rot and lead to yellowing leaves and poor flowering.
Give them plenty of sunlight. Most geraniums bloom best with several hours of bright light or direct sun each day.
Deadhead regularly. Remove faded flower clusters to encourage the plant to produce more blooms.
Feed during active growth. A balanced or flowering-plant fertilizer used according to its label can provide nutrients needed for continued growth and flowering.
Use a pot with drainage holes and a well-draining potting mix.
A simple watering rule
Instead of watering according to a fixed schedule, check the soil with your finger. If the top couple of centimeters feel dry, it’s generally time to water; if they’re still moist, wait.
Avoid viral remedies involving sugar, milk, vinegar, baking soda, or other kitchen ingredients. They aren’t necessary and can damage roots or encourage unwanted microbial growth.
The biggest secret is consistency: lots of light + well-drained soil + appropriate watering + regular deadheading will do far more for flowering than a special ingredient added to the water.
