If you have both high blood pressure and high cholesterol, there aren’t three specific morning habits that everyone must avoid. However, these are three particularly useful ones to limit:
1. 🧂 Eating a very salty, processed breakfast
Processed meats, instant foods, packaged breakfast foods and heavily salted foods can add substantial sodium. Reducing sodium is recommended for blood-pressure control.

Better: oatmeal, fruit, vegetables, eggs, unsalted nuts, or whole-grain foods with little added salt.
2. 🚬 Smoking after waking
Nicotine can raise blood pressure, and tobacco exposure increases cardiovascular risk. The American Heart Association recommends avoiding tobacco and nicotine.

3. âš¡ Starting the day with a large dose of caffeine or an energy drink
Caffeine can temporarily raise blood pressure. Energy drinks and concentrated caffeine products are more concerning, particularly for people who already have hypertension. Ordinary coffee in moderate amounts isn’t automatically harmful; current AHA guidance says up to 400 mg of caffeine/day is generally safe for most adults.

One more important point
If you monitor your BP in the morning, don’t measure it immediately after coffee, smoking, exercise, or eating. The AHA recommends avoiding these for about 30 minutes before a measurement and sitting quietly beforehand.

And if you’ve been prescribed blood-pressure or cholesterol medication, don’t skip or change it based on a viral health post. Lifestyle measures and prescribed treatment often work together.
