How to effectively clean ceramic glass cooktops without scratching them

How to Clean a Ceramic-Glass Cooktop Without Scratching It

The safest approach is gentle cleaning plus a proper cooktop scraper for stuck-on residue.

Let the cooktop cool completely. Never put cold water on a very hot glass surface.
Remove loose crumbs with a soft microfiber cloth.
Apply a small amount of cooktop cleaner specifically labeled safe for ceramic/glass cooktops. If you don’t have one, a little dish soap and warm water can handle light grease.
Wipe gently with a microfiber cloth or non-abrasive sponge. Avoid scouring pads, steel wool, abrasive powders, and rough scrubbers.
For burned-on food, use a cooktop razor scraper designed for glass cooktops. Hold it at a shallow angle and gently slide it under the residue—don’t dig the blade into the surface.
Wipe away the residue, then clean again with a damp microfiber cloth.
Dry and polish with a clean microfiber cloth to prevent streaks.
Avoid these common mistakes
Don’t use steel wool or abrasive cleaning pads.
Don’t drag heavy pots, cast-iron cookware, or pans with rough bottoms across the surface.
Don’t use a knife or ordinary razor blade as a scraper.
Don’t pour large amounts of water onto the cooktop.
Don’t clean sugar or melted plastic aggressively while it’s hot unless the manufacturer’s instructions specifically tell you how; these materials can bond strongly to the glass.

Tip: Cleaning small spills after each cooking session is much easier—and safer for the glass—than allowing them to repeatedly burn onto the surface.
