Dark rings around faucets are usually caused by hard-water mineral deposits, soap residue, mildew, or grime trapped around the base of the faucet. Here are some effective ways to remove them:
Method 1: White vinegar (best for hard-water stains)
- Soak a cloth or paper towel with white vinegar.
- Wrap it around the stained area.
- Leave it for 30–60 minutes.
- Scrub gently with an old toothbrush.
- Rinse well and dry with a microfiber cloth.
Method 2: Baking soda paste (for stubborn marks)
- Mix baking soda with a little water to make a paste.
- Apply it around the faucet base.
- Let it sit for 10–15 minutes.
- Scrub gently and rinse.
Method 3: For black mildew or mold
- Use a bathroom cleaner designed for mold/mildew, or a diluted bleach solution if appropriate for the surface.
- Apply carefully, allow a short contact time, then rinse thoroughly.
- Improve ventilation to prevent it returning.
To prevent the ring from coming back:
- Wipe around the faucet after use to remove standing water.
- Dry the area regularly.
- Avoid leaving soap residue around the base.
- Check if the faucet base seal is damaged and allowing water to collect underneath.
Important: Avoid using vinegar on some natural stone surfaces (such as marble or limestone), because acids can damage them. For those surfaces, use a stone-safe cleaner.
