If you’re asking whether baking soda can remove dark spots, wrinkles, and dark circles, the viral claim is misleading.
🧂 Baking soda isn’t a proven facial treatment
Baking soda is alkaline, while healthy facial skin is naturally mildly acidic. Raising the skin’s pH can disrupt the skin barrier and cause dryness, irritation, redness, or sensitivity. Irritation itself can actually make dark spots darker, particularly in darker skin tones.
It also cannot dissolve wrinkles or permanently remove dark circles. There isn’t good clinical evidence that applying household baking soda to the face provides these benefits.
What works better
For dark spots:
Daily broad-spectrum SPF 30+ sunscreen is one of the most important steps. Depending on the cause, dermatologists may recommend ingredients such as vitamin C or retinoids.
For fine lines/wrinkles:
Sun protection and moisturizer help, while retinoids can improve fine lines, wrinkles, skin texture and some pigmentation.
For dark circles:
The cause matters—genetics, pigmentation, allergies, lack of sleep, hollowness and aging can all contribute. Baking soda isn’t a reliable treatment.
