If You Have These Two “Holes” in Your Lower Back…Those two small indentations just above the buttocks are commonly called “dimples of Venus.” They are a normal anatomical feature caused by the way the skin and connective tissue attach around the pelvic bones. They are largely determined by genetics and body structure. What do they mean?

  • They do not prove that you are healthier or fitter than someone without them.
  • They are not a reliable sign of good circulation, weight, or sexual health.
  • Both men and women can have them.
  • Having them—or not having them—is usually simply a matter of anatomy.

So if a viral post says these “holes” mean you don’t have a certain disease or condition, don’t rely on that claim. Their presence by itself doesn’t diagnose or rule out a medical condition.

If the indentation is new, painful, swollen, asymmetrical, or associated with numbness or other symptoms, it’s worth having a healthcare professional examine it.
