Natural and Powerful Homemade Weed Control

Natural and Powerful Homemade Weed Control

If you want a simple homemade weed killer, white vinegar + a little dish soap can work well on young weeds.

Simple recipe
1 litre (about 4 cups) of white vinegar
1 teaspoon of dish soap

Mix gently in a spray bottle and spray the leaves of the weeds on a dry, sunny day.

Important limitations
Vinegar is primarily a contact killer: it can burn down leaves but may not kill deep roots, so perennial weeds can return.
Don’t spray desirable plants—vinegar can damage or kill them too.
Avoid spraying near vegetable plants, lawns, and flowers unless you can keep the spray completely off them.
Don’t mix vinegar with bleach, ammonia, or other household cleaners.
Stronger horticultural vinegar (higher acetic-acid concentration) is substantially more hazardous to skin and eyes, so don’t treat it like ordinary kitchen vinegar.

For weeds growing between paving stones or in cracks, hand-pulling followed by boiling water can be a useful chemical-free alternative.
