“Put This Ingredient in Your Bucket and Your Floor Will Stay Clean All Week”

There isn’t a magic ingredient that can keep a floor completely clean for an entire week. But a simple cleaning solution can make floors look fresh and help remove everyday dirt.

A simple option: a little dish soap

For many washable hard floors, add a few drops of mild dish soap to a bucket of warm water. The CDC has also published a simple floor-cleaning recipe using diluted vinegar for linoleum and tile.

How to use it:

  1. Sweep or vacuum first.
  2. Add a small amount of mild dish soap to warm water.
  3. Use a damp, not soaking-wet, mop.
  4. Rinse the mop frequently.
  5. Allow the floor to dry.

⚠️ Match the cleaner to your floor

Don’t assume one homemade mixture is safe for every surface. Vinegar, for example, can damage some flooring finishes such as laminate, while excessive moisture can also cause problems.

And never mix bleach with vinegar, ammonia, or other cleaning products. The CDC warns that mixing household bleach with other cleaners can produce dangerous vapors
