“You Won’t Believe What 2 Minutes Can Do to Your Puffy Eyes…”

There actually is a simple 2-minute trick that may temporarily reduce under-eye puffiness: a cool compress. It isn’t a miracle cure, but cooling the area can reduce the appearance of swelling.

Try this safely

  1. Soak a clean, soft washcloth in cool water.
  2. Wring it out and close your eyes.
  3. Gently place it over the under-eye area for a few minutes.
  4. Don’t press hard or put ice directly against your skin.

Under-eye puffiness can result from fluid retention, lack of sleep, allergies, aging, genetics, or eating a salty meal. Getting adequate sleep, limiting excess salt, and sleeping with your head slightly elevated may also help.

🚫 Avoid viral eye hacks

Don’t put lemon juice, baking soda, vinegar, toothpaste, essential oils, or other household ingredients around your eyes. The skin is delicate, and these substances can cause irritation or injury.

If swelling is persistent, severe, painful, associated with a rash or vision changes, or accompanied by swelling elsewhere in the body, get medical advice because allergies and certain medical conditions can also cause eye-area swelling.
