Does One Blood Type Make You More Likely to Live to 100?
The headline “this blood type is more likely to live to 100” is not established fact. Research has produced mixed results.
One Japanese study of 269 centenarians found that blood type B occurred somewhat more often among people who reached 100 than among controls, leading the researchers to suggest a possible association with exceptional longevity. (PubMed)
However, a much larger Chinese study involving 2,201 centenarians and 2,330 controls found no statistically significant differences in the distribution of A, B, O, or AB blood types. The authors concluded that ABO blood groups were not associated with longevity. (PubMed Central (PMC))
🧬 So which blood type is the “longevity blood type”?
There isn’t a scientifically established one. Having type B—or O, A, or AB—doesn’t mean you’re destined to live longer or shorter.
Longevity is influenced by a complex combination of genetics, cardiovascular and metabolic health, lifestyle, environment, and access to healthcare. Recent centenarian research has found associations with markers such as glucose, kidney function, uric acid, and other blood biomarkers, rather than identifying one particular ABO blood type as the key to reaching 100.
Bottom line: Your blood type may be associated with certain disease risks, but it cannot reliably predict whether you’ll live to 100.
