Very dirty mop, do not buy it again: a drop of this ingredient and it will be as good as new again

If you’re referring to a cleaning tip or viral claim, the idea is usually that adding a household ingredient can restore a dirty mop. A few ingredients can genuinely help, but the “one drop and it will be like new” wording is often exaggerated.

For a very dirty mop, a more reliable deep-clean method is:

  1. Rinse the mop thoroughly with warm water to remove loose dirt.
  2. Soak it in a bucket of warm water with:
    • a small amount of laundry detergent or dish soap, and
    • a splash of white vinegar (avoid mixing vinegar with bleach).
  3. Leave it for 15–30 minutes.
  4. Rinse several times until the water runs clear.
  5. Let it dry completely in sunlight or an open area to reduce odors and bacteria.

If the mop head is old, permanently gray, falling apart, or smells bad even after cleaning, replacing it may be more hygienic.

If you share the “ingredient” mentioned in the viral tip, I can tell you whether it actually works and whether it’s safe.
