What Is The Normal Blood Pressure For Each Age

Normal Blood Pressure by Age ❤️

A common misconception is that there is a different “normal” blood pressure for every adult age. For adults, the same basic blood-pressure categories are used regardless of age.

Age Generally normal blood pressure
Children 1–12 Depends on age, sex, and height; below the 90th percentile is considered normal
Teenagers 13+ Below 120/80 mmHg
Adults 18–64 Below 120/80 mmHg
Adults 65+ There isn’t a separate age-specific “normal”; treatment targets are individualized
Adults 80+ Individualized based on overall health, frailty, and medical conditions

For children, you shouldn’t use an adult number to decide whether their blood pressure is normal. Pediatric readings are interpreted using age, sex, and height percentiles.

Adult blood-pressure categories
Normal: <120 / <80
Elevated: 120–129 / <80
Stage 1 hypertension: 130–139 or 80–89
Stage 2 hypertension: ≥140 or ≥90

A single high reading doesn’t necessarily mean you have hypertension; repeated, properly measured readings are generally used.

🚨 If blood pressure is over 180/120 mmHg, repeat the measurement after a short rest. If it remains that high, seek urgent medical advice; if it’s accompanied by chest pain, shortness of breath, weakness/numbness, vision changes, severe headache, or difficulty speaking, seek emergency care.

If you tell me your age and your blood-pressure reading (for example, 145/85), I can explain what that particular reading means.
