# 9 Signs of Diabetes That Appear at Night

There isn’t a special set of “night-only” diabetes symptoms. However, high blood sugar can make certain symptoms especially noticeable overnight, and some people may first notice them because they repeatedly wake up.

1. 🚽 Waking up frequently to urinate

High blood glucose can cause increased urination, including urinating often at night.

2. 💧 Strong thirst or a dry mouth

Repeatedly waking up very thirsty or needing water can accompany high blood glucose.

3. 😴 Unusual nighttime fatigue

Persistent tiredness can be a symptom of diabetes, although there are many other possible causes.

4. 🌙 Night sweats, shakiness or nightmares

These can be signs of low blood glucose (hypoglycemia), particularly in someone already taking insulin or certain diabetes medicines. Low glucose during sleep can cause sweating, nightmares and waking confused or irritable.

5. 🤯 Morning headaches

A headache on waking can sometimes accompany overnight glucose problems, but it is not specific to diabetes.

6. 👁️ Blurry vision

High blood glucose can cause temporary blurred vision.

7. 🦶 Tingling or numb feet

Diabetes can cause nerve damage, leading to tingling, numbness or pain in the feet or hands.

8. 🦠 Repeated infections

People with diabetes may experience infections more frequently, including urinary-tract, skin and yeast infections.

9. ⚖️ Unexplained weight loss

Unexpected weight loss can be a symptom, particularly when diabetes is untreated and blood glucose is substantially elevated.
