THIS burns weeds in 1 day! They NEVER grow again

The claim “THIS burns weeds in 1 day! They NEVER grow again” is a common gardening clickbait phrase. The reality is that no simple household mixture can permanently stop weeds from ever growing again.

Some things can kill weeds quickly, but they usually work by damaging the leaves, not eliminating the roots:

  • Boiling water – can kill small weeds and scorch leaves, especially in cracks and paths, but deep roots may survive.
  • Vinegar-based weed killers – can burn foliage within hours or a day, but many perennial weeds regrow from roots. Strong vinegar solutions can also harm nearby plants and soil life.
  • Salt mixtures – may kill weeds, but salt can damage soil for a long time and prevent desirable plants from growing. It can also run off into areas where you don’t want it.
  • Mulch or ground cover – often works better for long-term prevention by blocking light and stopping new weed seeds from sprouting.

For weeds that “never come back,” the closest approach is usually:

  1. Remove the plant with as much root as possible.
  2. Cover bare soil with mulch, compost, or landscape fabric where appropriate.
  3. Keep desirable plants healthy so they outcompete weeds.

If you tell me where the weeds are (lawn, driveway cracks, patio, flower beds, gravel, etc.), I can suggest the most effective method for that area.
