If you mean foods that can help strengthen weak bones, there isn’t one miracle food. Bone health depends especially on adequate calcium, vitamin D, protein, and overall nutrition, together with weight-bearing exercise.
𦴠1. Calcium-rich foods
Good choices include:
- Milk, yogurt, and cheese
- Calcium-fortified plant milks
- Sardines or canned salmon with edible bones
- Tofu made with calcium
- Kale, bok choy, and other leafy vegetables
How to consume them: Spread calcium-rich foods throughout the day rather than relying on one large serving. For example, yogurt at breakfast and milk or fortified plant milk with another meal.
âď¸ Don’t forget vitamin D
Vitamin D helps your body absorb calcium. Sources include fatty fish, egg yolks, and fortified foods, while sunlight can help your body make vitamin D.
đŞ Protein matters too
Eggs, fish, poultry, beans, lentils, yogurt, and other protein-rich foods support muscles as well as bones. Strong muscles also help reduce the risk of falls.
đ Food isn’t enough
For weak bones or osteoporosis, weight-bearing and resistance exercise are important, and some people need medication or supplements depending on their bone density and fracture risk.
If you have been told you have osteoporosis or âweak bones,â tell me your age and whether you’re male or female, and I can give you a practical daily food plan for stronger bones.
