Clear your throat and lungs of mucus with this recipe – just 2 ingredients

Clear Your Throat and Lungs of Mucus With This “2-Ingredient” Recipe

The claim that a two-ingredient recipe can “clear your lungs” is misleading. No simple drink can cleanse the lungs or eliminate the underlying cause of persistent phlegm.

For an ordinary cough or mucus from a respiratory infection, a simple warm lemon-and-honey drink can soothe the throat, while drinking plenty of water helps loosen mucus and makes it easier to cough up. The NHS suggests ½ a lemon + 1–2 teaspoons of honey in a mug of hot water. (nhs.uk)

🍋 A simple option

  • Juice of ½ lemon
  • 1–2 teaspoons honey
  • Add to a mug of warm/hot water and drink while warm.

Honey should not be given to babies under 1 year old. (nhs.uk)

What if the mucus is coming from your nose?

If you’re constantly clearing your throat or feel mucus dripping down the back of your throat, postnasal drip/catarrh may be responsible. Staying hydrated and using a saline nasal rinse can help. (nhs.uk)

🚨 Don’t ignore persistent phlegm

A cough lasting more than 3 weeks, coughing up blood, chest pain, or difficulty breathing should be medically evaluated. Severe difficulty breathing requires emergency care. (nhs.uk)

Bottom line: Warm lemon and honey may soothe your throat and help with a cough, but it isn’t a lung-cleaning treatment or a cure for chronic mucus.
