Did you know that drinking water on an empty stomach could be… see more…..

This is a common clickbait headline. The reality is much less dramatic.

Drinking water on an empty stomach—such as first thing in the morning—can be a healthy habit, but it does not have special healing or “detox” powers.

Possible benefits include:

  • Rehydrating after sleep, since you haven’t had fluids for several hours.
  • Supporting normal digestion, as staying hydrated helps the digestive system function properly.
  • Helping with bowel regularity in some people.
  • Replacing sugary morning drinks, which may reduce added sugar intake.

Claims that it can:

  • “Flush toxins from your body”
  • “Melt belly fat”
  • “Cure diseases”
  • “Boost metabolism dramatically”

are not supported by strong scientific evidence. Your kidneys and liver already do the job of removing waste products from your body.

The most important thing is getting enough water throughout the day, not whether you drink it on an empty stomach. If plain water first thing in the morning feels good to you, it’s a perfectly healthy habit—but it’s not a miracle treatment.
