Does anyone know what kind of insect this is? I just found it on my son’s head…

I can help, but I’ll need a bit more info—or ideally a photo.

Right now there isn’t enough detail to identify the insect accurately. Different insects on the scalp can look very similar (for example lice, fleas, small beetles, or harmless hitchhikers).

If you can, please:

  • Upload a clear photo (close-up, good lighting), or
  • Describe it:
    • Size (tiny like a grain of rice? bigger?)
    • Color (brown, black, translucent?)
    • Did it jump, crawl slowly, or fly?
    • Was it attached to hair or just sitting on the head?

Important quick note

If it was found on a child’s scalp and looked like it was clinging to hair or moving slowly, one common possibility is head lice. They:

  • Don’t jump or fly
  • Cling tightly to hair strands
  • Are usually very small and grayish-brown

But I don’t want to guess incorrectly without seeing it.

Send a picture if you can, and I’ll identify it for you.
