Get rid of all the stuck poop you’ve had in your body for a long time.

The idea that you can “get rid of years of stuck poop” with a quick cleanse or detox is a common internet claim, but it’s misleading. A healthy colon does not usually become coated with kilograms of old waste that needs to be flushed out. Your digestive system is constantly moving food and stool through your body.

If you feel constipated or like you’re not fully emptying your bowels, safer ways to support regularity include:

  • Increase fiber gradually: fruits, vegetables, beans, oats, whole grains, chia or flax seeds.
  • Drink enough fluids so fiber can work properly.
  • Move your body regularly (walking and exercise can help bowel function).
  • Create a regular bathroom routine and don’t ignore the urge to go.
  • Consider a fiber supplement (such as psyllium) if your diet is low in fiber.

Avoid extreme “colon cleanses,” repeated enemas, or harsh laxative regimens marketed as removing “old toxins.” They can cause dehydration, electrolyte problems, and bowel irritation.

If you have constipation lasting several weeks, severe abdominal pain, vomiting, blood in stool, unexplained weight loss, or a sudden change in bowel habits, seek medical advice. A healthcare professional can check for causes such as medication effects, diet issues, or underlying conditions.
