Here’s how to clean your refrigerator’s waterproof seal in 5 minutes.

Here’s a quick way to clean your refrigerator’s rubber door seal (gasket) in about 5 minutes:

What you need

  • Warm water
  • A few drops of dish soap
  • Soft cloth or sponge
  • Old toothbrush (for the grooves)
  • Dry towel

Steps

  1. Open the refrigerator door and inspect the rubber seal for crumbs, dirt, or mold spots.
  2. Mix warm water with a little dish soap.
  3. Dip a cloth into the solution and wipe along the entire seal, including the folds.
  4. Use an old toothbrush to scrub dirt trapped in the grooves and corners.
  5. Wipe away soap residue with a clean damp cloth.
  6. Dry the seal completely with a towel—moisture left in the folds can encourage mold growth.

For stubborn mold spots

  • Use a cloth lightly dampened with white vinegar and wipe the affected areas.
  • Avoid harsh bleach or abrasive cleaners unless the refrigerator manufacturer specifically recommends them, as they may damage the rubber over time.

A clean gasket helps your refrigerator seal properly, stay efficient, and prevent odors from building up.
