That headline is another common gardening clickbait phrase. Whether you should remove a plant depends entirely on which plant it is.
Posts that say “Never uproot this plant if it appears in your garden” are often referring to volunteer plants that can be beneficial, such as:
- Dandelion — supports pollinators and has deep roots that can improve soil structure.
- Purslane — edible and rich in nutrients.
- Clover — helps fix nitrogen in the soil.
- Milkweed — important for monarch butterflies.
However, some plants that appear on their own are invasive or harmful to other plants and should be removed.
How to decide
Ask:
- What is the plant?
- Is it native to your area?
- Is it invasive where you live?
- Does it benefit pollinators, soil, or wildlife?
- Is it spreading aggressively?
Best approach
If you can identify the plant first, you’ll make a much better decision than following a viral post.
If you upload a photo or tell me what the plant looks like (leaves, flowers, height, etc.), I can help identify it and explain whether it’s worth keeping or removing.
