Is colonoscopy being replaced by a new, non-invasive method?
Not yet. The headline is misleading if it suggests that conventional colonoscopy is obsolete.
There are already less-invasive alternatives:
CT colonography (“virtual colonoscopy”) uses CT imaging rather than inserting a camera through the colon. It still usually requires bowel preparation and inflation of the colon.

Colon capsule endoscopy involves swallowing a small camera capsule that takes images as it travels through the digestive tract. It can be useful in selected situations, but current guidelines do not consider it a universal replacement for conventional colonoscopy.

Stool-based tests such as FIT can screen for colorectal cancer without an invasive procedure. A positive result generally requires follow-up colonoscopy.
Why colonoscopy still matters
Conventional colonoscopy has a major advantage: if a doctor finds a suspicious polyp, they can often remove it or take a biopsy during the same procedure. CT scans and capsule examinations can’t provide that treatment capability.

So the accurate takeaway is:
Newer, less-invasive options can reduce the need for conventional colonoscopy in some people, but colonoscopy has not been eliminated.
