oven-baked layered potato

If you mean an oven-baked layered potato dish, you might be thinking of potato gratin/scalloped potatoes. Here’s a simple version:

Oven-Baked Layered Potatoes

Ingredients

  • 1.5 kg (about 3 lb) potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups cream or milk (or a mixture of both)
  • 2–3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 cup grated cheese (optional)
  • 1 tsp salt (adjust to taste)
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp dried thyme or rosemary (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. Grease a baking dish with butter and rub with a little garlic.
  3. Arrange a layer of sliced potatoes in the dish.
  4. Sprinkle lightly with salt, pepper, herbs, and a little cheese if using.
  5. Repeat layers until all potatoes are used.
  6. Pour the cream or milk mixture evenly over the potatoes.
  7. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  8. Remove foil, add remaining cheese (if using), and bake another 20–30 minutes until golden and the potatoes are tender.
  9. Let rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Optional additions:

  • Add sliced onions between layers for extra flavor.
  • Add cooked bacon, mushrooms, or spinach for a heartier dish.
  • Use sweet potatoes for a different flavor.

You can make it richer with cream and cheese, or lighter with milk and fewer toppings.
