If you mean an oven-baked layered potato dish, you might be thinking of potato gratin/scalloped potatoes. Here’s a simple version:
Oven-Baked Layered Potatoes
Ingredients
- 1.5 kg (about 3 lb) potatoes, thinly sliced
- 2 cups cream or milk (or a mixture of both)
- 2–3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 cup grated cheese (optional)
- 1 tsp salt (adjust to taste)
- ½ tsp black pepper
- ½ tsp dried thyme or rosemary (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Grease a baking dish with butter and rub with a little garlic.
- Arrange a layer of sliced potatoes in the dish.
- Sprinkle lightly with salt, pepper, herbs, and a little cheese if using.
- Repeat layers until all potatoes are used.
- Pour the cream or milk mixture evenly over the potatoes.
- Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
- Remove foil, add remaining cheese (if using), and bake another 20–30 minutes until golden and the potatoes are tender.
- Let rest for 10 minutes before serving.
Optional additions:
- Add sliced onions between layers for extra flavor.
- Add cooked bacon, mushrooms, or spinach for a heartier dish.
- Use sweet potatoes for a different flavor.
You can make it richer with cream and cheese, or lighter with milk and fewer toppings.
