Stroke: These symptoms occur a month before the stroke occurs.

The headline “These symptoms occur a month before a stroke” is misleading. There is no reliable set of symptoms that consistently appears exactly one month before a stroke.

What can happen beforehand is a TIA (transient ischemic attack)—a temporary interruption of blood flow to the brain. A TIA can cause the same symptoms as a stroke, but they may disappear within minutes or hours. It is an important warning sign and requires urgent medical assessment. (American Stroke Association)

🚨 Warning symptoms to know

Use B.E. F.A.S.T.:

  • B — Balance: sudden dizziness, loss of balance or coordination
  • E — Eyes: sudden blurred, double, or lost vision
  • F — Face: one side of the face droops or becomes numb
  • A — Arm: sudden weakness or numbness, especially on one side
  • S — Speech: slurred speech, difficulty speaking or understanding
  • T — Time: call emergency services immediately

Other possible sudden symptoms include confusion or a severe headache with no known cause. (American Stroke Association)

Don’t wait to see whether symptoms go away. Even if the symptoms disappear, a TIA needs urgent evaluation because it can precede a major stroke. (American Stroke Association)

If someone is having any of these symptoms right now, seek emergency medical help immediately rather than waiting for a doctor’s appointment.
